You are the staff nurse on a respiratory ward. A third-year student is with you.
Mr Keane, 68, a smoker of 40 years, in bed 9, had a chest X-ray and CT for a cough with blood-streaked sputum. He is for a bronchoscopy in the morning.
The student asks: "Why a bronchoscopy after the CT, and what do I tell him about the test?"
teach the student about how lung cancer is investigated, what a bronchoscopy is, and the nursing care before and after.
